Not a big fan of this picture. I took it at night. I put the camera on a tripod and gave it a nice long exposure time. The problem with it is the white balance. There was light from the window, light from the street lamp and light from the moon, so the auto white balance was way off. Even in post I wasn’t able to really get the white balance right. On top of that it is more grainy than I like. The one thing I do like is the little purple flowers at the base of the bush. I wish I had made them the focus of the picture.

Day 88
Not a lot to say on this one. I was documenting the renovation of my garage. This is a picture of it. It’s a bedroom now.

Day 87
Three views of the same window, with differing levels of zoom.
I think I like the closest one best.
Not really a fan of this one at all.
And this one takes second place. Somehow something gets lost in the mid-range view.

Day 86
Two different blooming trees in my backyard.
I love the depth of focus in both pictures, but I am starting to think that I use it a little too often. Time to try something else.

Day 85
I shot this at a friend’s house. They had a number of fish in the tank.
This shot was tricky to get. It was very low light conditions, so I had to catch the fish when it wasn’t moving or it just became a blur. On top of that, I was shooting handheld, so I had to keep the camera steady. (To get the shot bright enough, I had to open the iris and slow down the shutter speed. The slow shutter speed tends to result in blurring if the camera or the subject move.) Overall, I am happy with how it came out, although I would have preferred to get the entire fish in the shot.

Day 84
Among all the pictures I took of the girls collecting eggs, these are some of my favorites from an artistic perspective.
I like the action in this one. You can see the search happening. She’s almost done, just looking for that last one.
Pretty much put these eggs in this hiding spot just to take the picture. Did about a dozen of these, but this was my favorite framing and focus.
She was actually showing me her ring, but it just looked like she was threatening me. I wish I could have gotten the glove and ring in better focus.
Love the cracked egg contrasted with the happy smiles. They just don’t know that their turn is next.

Day 83
My mother in laws birthday. Took this one on full auto flash and all. Just shows how good they make the auto features on cameras these days.

Day 82
Went on a hike with the family. These are my favorites from the trip. I took these pictures on the trails up on Monte Sano.
Just off the trail under a little bridge. I could hear the water falling so I went looking for it. I must have taken close to twenty shots at different angles and exposures. I liked this one the best because the features surrounding the fall were the sharpest, but you could still see the movement in the water.
Love the depth of focus here. Tried it with the front one out of focus, but it just didn’t work as well.
Sometimes it is annoying to see man-made things in nature, but I wouldn’t want to get lost either. What I like best is the framing and the contrast in the subjects.
This rotted log was laying along the path. Getting down on its level gave a better perspective.

Day 81
Didn’t think to take a picture until last-minute on this day, so I took a shot of dinner cooking. I had to white balance it in post because the light over the oven is very yellow.

Day 80
So more tree blossoms, this one is outside my neighbor’s house. I took about twenty pictures, these are my three favorites.
The fronts of the flowers are mostly white, you don’t really see the nice pink until you look at the backside.
I love the contrast of the gentle flower against the rough bark of the tree.
I like this shot because it contrasts the closeup beauty of the individual flowers with the beauty of the bigger picture. Sometimes it pays to look at the forest and the trees.
